Our Success Stories
1999
Buster:  Buster was a 13 year old pug-chihuahua mix who was surrendered to a shelter because his owner went into a nursing home.  He had a beign anal tumor that had to be removed.  His new owner fell in love with him at first sight, and now Buster and his new family travel to car shows together.
Jodi:  Jodi was an 11 year old pug-chihuahua mix who was surrendered to us by her owner because his chronic illness did not allow him to care for her anymore.  She was blind in one eye and mildly arthritic.  She was adopted out to a wonderful family with a pug sister. Due to serious health issues, Jodi only lived an additional year, but she was comfortable and happy to the end.
Jamie:  Jamie was surrendered to us by the same owner as Jodi.  Jamie arrived with sutures in his abdomen from a recent surgery to remove a malignant spleen tumor.  Despite the surgery, his prognosis was terminal.  A caring family adopted Jamie and provided hospice care until his peaceful death 9 months later.
2000
Bruno:  Bruno was a very bright one and a half year old who was surrendered to us by his owner because the owner started a new job and didn't have time to take care of him.  He was adopted out to a new family and quickly became best friends with the 9 year old son.  The son trained Bruno through the 4-H obedience program, and Bruno did well enough to qualify for the obedience competition at the State Fair!
Hayden:  Hayden was a very active 1 1/2 year old who was surrendered to us by a person who managed to rescue him from an abusive situation.  He had a permanent injury to his hind leg, which caused a significant limp.  He was also extremely thin.  He was adopted out to a family who had a pug sister who is just as hyperactive!  They have a wonderful time playing together.  Hayden has since gained weight and is doing great.
Buddy:   Buddy was a 10 year old who was surrendered to us by his family because they just had a baby and Buddy wasn't getting the attention he needed.  Buddy had awful teeth, and required extensive dental work before placement.  He was adopted out to a couple who had a younger pug.  Buddy now goes on daily walks with the neighborhood dogs and owners.

2001
Buster:  Buster was approximately 8 years old when he was surrendered to us by his owner. The owner's lifestyle had changed, and she couldn't care for him anymore.  He was a very sweet and mellow dog who enjoyed lounging around on the couch (the more pillows, the better!).  His teeth were in awful shape, but after a dental cleaning they were up to par again.  An instant bond formed between Buster and his new mom, and now he is living a laid back  life in rural Northern New York.
Bobby:  Bobby was a 2 year old male pug who was surrendered to us by his owner.  The owner had become increasingly frustrated with Bobby's allergies and his need for attention.  Our associate, Kathy in Rochester, picked up Bobby and intended to provide foster care.  However, within a few days she had fallen completely in love with him and decided to keep him.  We are happy to say Bobby's allergies are much better and he is receiving all the attention he needs, both from his new mom and his canine brother and sister!
Kokomo:  Kokomo was a 5 year old male pug who was dropped off at an animal shelter because his family didn't have time for him anymore.  Fortunately the shelter called us right away, and we were able to pick him up within 48 hrs of his arrival. Kokomo was infested with fleas, and had severe flea bite dermatitis. He also had yeast infections in both ears.  Once the fleas were gone, Kokomo had to have a serious dental cleaning. A soft food diet caused 21 of his teeth to already rot and fall out. Nine more teeth had to be pulled, leaving him with only 12 teeth left!  Kokomo is a very sweet loving dog who now shares his life with an equally sweet woman in Liverpool.
.
Bozzie:  Bozzie was an energetic 3 year old male pug who was brought into the same shelter Kokomo was the morning we arrived.  Bozzie was surrendered because his owner was frustrated with his marking habits and was threatening to shot him!  Surprisingly, Bozzie was in good physical shape, and despite an understandable fear of strange men, he soon showed off his clown-like personality. Interestingly, Bozzie's marking problem never surfaced, so we think he just wasn't let outside enough.  Bozzie quickly found a home with a new family who adores him, and he gets along great with his new Laborador brother.
2002
Winston:  Winston is a 5 to 7 year old male pug who was surrendered by his owner.  In his short life, Winston has had at least 3 homes.  When he first arrived, Winston had a heavy worm infestation and was very frightened.  After he was treated for worms, neutered, updated for vaccinations and had his teeth cleaned, the real work began.  Winston stayed in our program for over six months. His behavioral issues required a lot of patience, love and care to overcome  Eventually he warmed up to us and his sweet personality emerged. Winston found a wonderful family and was very happy, but sadly died of cancer.a year later.
Snuggles: Snuggles was a 3 year old female pug surrendered by her owner.  Fortunately, she was well cared for, and all we had to do is find her a good home.  Snuggles found that home in Liverpool, NY and shares it with a family of four who dote on her every need.
Buster:  Buster was a 5 year old male whose caring owner could not find an apartment that would accept pets.  We are happy to say that Buster found a new home with a loving couple with two other dogs who are overjoyed to have him in their lives.
Bella:   Bella was Buster's "sister" whose caring owner could not find an apartment that would accept pets.  Although we make every effort to keep dogs together, in this situation it just was not possible.  However, we are happy to say that Bella found a new home with a new family which includes 3 humans and a new pug brother!
Biggie:  Biggie was a 10 month old pug who was given as a gift to his previous owner. Although she loved him very much, Biggie's previous owner did not have enough time to spend with him.  He now has a new Mom and Dad who are busy spoiling him as much as they spoil his new pug sister!
Cuddles: Cuddles is a 4 1/2 yr old pug/pekingese mix. She was very timid, but sweet.  Her previous owner had too many dogs and knew Cuddles needed more individual attention.  Cuddles is now in a new home with a doting Mom, Dad and pug brother.
Buster:  Buster was a 5 year old male whose caring owner could not find an apartment that would accept pets.  We are happy to say that Buster found a new home with a loving couple with two other dogs who are overjoyed to have him in their lives.

2003
Buddi:  Buddi was from a senior breeder's kennel.  At age 93, the breeder decided to sell off her kennel dogs and retire.  Since Buddi had not yet been neutered, he had a major marking problem, which made it a difficult adjustment for a home environment. Buddi was neutered, medically examined, and updated on his vaccinations.  He is now is a home in Rochester with a couple who love him! He also has a mixed breed dog sister, Tiki,  who likes to herd him around.
Gracie:  Gracie was a pug/bulldog mix who didn't get along with her previous owner's other dog.  She was not a fighter, just had a personality conflict with the other dog.  Fortunately she was well cared for, so it was an easy time placing her with her new Mom.
Sienna:  Sienna was a 5 year old female pug who came with Roscoe and Bucky from a woman who had two other pugs also.  Sienna's previous owner had 5 pugs, but when her brother wasn't able to help with them anymore, she decided to place three of them.  Sienna was updated on vaccinations, and placed with Roscoe in their new home with a loving Mom.
Roscoe:  Roscoe was a 3 year old male pug who came with Sienna and Bucky from a woman who had two other pugs also.  Roscoe's previous owner had 5 pugs, but when her brother wasn't able to help with them anymore, she decided to place three of them.  Roscoe  was neutered and updated on vaccinations, and along with Sienna, placed in a new home with a loving Mom.
Tootsie:  Tootsie was an 11 year old pug who needed to be rehomed because her previous owner couldn't care for her anymore.  She was placed in a home with a loving couple who spoil her rotten!
Waston::  Watson was found tied to Ronnie's fence one morning. We think he was about 1 1/2 years old.  He was examined, neutered and updated on vaccination.  He is now happily living in a permanent home with a couple and their young son.

Vinnie::  Vinnie was a 9 week old pug who was given as a surprise gift to a woman who knew she did not have time to give a puppy.  The puppy was adopted by a retired woman who lives alone.  Vinnie keeps her company and provides her with hours of amusement.
Bucky::  Bucky was a 7 year old male who came with Sienna and Roscoe.  He was nervous around children because he was mistreated by one when he was younger.  The couple who adopted Jodi happily took in Bucky, and he is doing very well.
Pugsley and Peaches:  These two adorable senior pugs arrived together.  Their background was sketchy since the previous owner did not share too much information with us.  They required vaccinations and teeth cleaning.  Thankfully we were able to place them together with a wonderful and caring young woman.
Maggie Mae is a 4 yr old surrendered by her very loving senior caregivers. Her senior mom & dad originally rescued her from a very abusive situation, but due to their age they could no longer care for her. It was very hard for them to give her up, but they loved her so much they knew it was the best thing to do. Maggie Mae found a home with a loving lady. Maggie's new mom gives her attention almost 24/7. Maggie had some baggage from her past abuse (before her senior family) & her new mom has been very patient & caring and Maggie has gained a lot of confidence. They take daily walks and stop sometimes at the local Doggie Bakery for treats, making Maggie Mae's day, of course.

Dudley is a 8 yr old Shih tzu / pug mix (nope didn't look like he had any pug in him to us either, but we took him in.) He was surrendered because his owner moved. He was adopted by a wonderful family - mom & dad with a teenage daughter. Dudley took to his human sister  immediately. There is a mutual love & they are inseparable.

Taz ( Skip) is a 1 - 1.5 yr old pug who was found as a stray. A good Samaritan saved him from being run over in a parking lot. After a few weeks of trying to find his owners, she brought Skip to Pug Rescue. Skip had some trust issues, so a home without small children was needed. His new human mom & human teenage brother, just moved into a new home & wanted to add a four legged family member. Fortunately, Skip matched their family perfectly. He is now living the life of luxury & his trust issues have been resolved with all their love & patience. Because Skip runs around like a world wind, they renamed him Taz

Pugsy is a Pug / Jack Russell mixed that was turned into a kill shelter in PA.  A very nice pittbull rescuer who saw him, went out of her way to save Pugsy. She called us to see if we could take him so he would not be put to sleep.  She took him out of the shelter & met us at the NY border. Pugsy was very smart & busy boy  (Jack Russell side) and took a bit of time to find the right home. The wait was worth it. He is living & playing in a very wonder human family. The extra bonus is he has a beagle sister his own age and the are best buddies. He taught her to bark when strangers come to the door & she taught him you still have to go outside to go potty even if it's raining (most pugs hate rain & snow!)

Uncle Sam was turned in to our rescue by his owner who's town ordinance had  3 dog limit.  He was used as a stud breeder and was getting too old. One of own members - parent of rescue mascot Fred's person - saw Uncle Sam , and it was love at first sight!  Sam found a new forever home in the country, with two new brothers - Fred and Bubba. He now attends frequent Pug Events , and spends a lot of time snoring in front of the fire. He has a Mom who spends lots of time with him, and they all go for walks every day. He is very, very loved.  Sam also is famous. He has a published article and two photos in the national magazine "Pug Talk."
Belle was turned in to rescue by a caring family. They took her in from someone moving & they were going to keep her. However, their current dogs did not really like her. Also they had a pool which she fell in & they had to jump in & safe her from drowning.  They wanted what was best for her & call us. Bella has the best - two families. She lives with her new mom - who use to raise pugs and is very knowledgeable about them - and next store, lives her new mom's granddaughter, who insists Bella is hers & takes care of her too. What more could anyone ask for - double the love!
Lola was turned to the shelter, who called us because Lola was very stressed in that environment. We are very thankful to them for calling us. Lola's mannerism and body language showed signs of abuse and neglect. She was extremely fearful of men. Living in a foster home was best for her - after a little while of cuddling and vet care Lola began to blossom. Lola now lives with her new mom, who is spoiling her, which Lola deserves. Mom takes Lola to work with her most of the time.  Also they visit a group home of disabled "men". The men take turns petting & kisses her which Lola  adores,.and now has learned that men can be nice. She has a great-uncle downstairs from her home and she makes regular visits.  Lola has is getting love for everywhere & everyone who meets her.  Lola loves her new mom and now has the life she deserves.
Sophie this poor little senior, est 12 years old, was dumped on the streets during the coldest days of the 2004 winter. A good Samaritan brought her into the emergency hospital after seeing cars almost hit her.  The hospital staff tried to find her owners. No one claimed this very sweet lady. A very caring vet tech call us after a few days and we took her in.  Sophie has an engulfing smile & personality, which just takes your heart away and that's exactly what it did to her new mom. Once mom saw her, she applied to adopt Sophie. Since then mom has provided the medical care & love that Sophie needed.  Sophie joined a younger sister pug Lulu & a few months later, a brother pug Decker who mom adopted from our rescue. Their mom is now know at their vet office as "PUG Mom." but we added a title, "Special Pug Mom!"
Gabriela was surrender by her owner because they felt they could not give Gabby the medical attention she needed.  Gabby has a new mom & dad that love her and spoil her. They feed her the special food she needs & has addressed her allergies.  Gabby "thinks" she is the queen of the home & they should do as she commands. She does get her way a lot. because she has such a loving personality - it's hard not to say no to her.
